music notes

As everyone around me is preoccupied with finding jobs instead of studying for finals, I find myself preoccupied with reflecting on my time spent here at Baylor and all the opportunities I have been given as a result.
I am so thankful for the development of my BBA program and the doors it has potentially opened for me. Through my positions in Uproar, Panhellenic, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and all the projects I have worked on, I have definitely learned more about how I want to direct my future career goals.
I am (finally) excited to say that I will be spending my final semester in London, England, and will get to participate in an internship relating to entertainment! It is an internship placement so I got to preference the industry I want to work in, in which I picked film. As much as I love music, I thought this was the best option to diversify my experiences even further. Regardless, I am thrilled to potentially be working with events and publicity within that field! Events is something I am passionate about, especially in music, and I’m excited to see how this internship next semester will influence me!
This summer I also get to learn a little more about public relations when I start a summer internship with The Dwyer Group for Mr. Rooter. This will definitely give me more experience writing and I’m excited to practice what I know as well as learn a lot about what I don’t!
So this is what my relative future looks like as of today, and now, I have to go study for finals and check out that new Carrie Underwood CD - Blown Away.

Introducing O, Loveland’s first “official” music video, following their March EP release. This video was done by the talented Michael Goldstein and Sam Klatt who are also graduating FDM majors from Baylor. O, Loveland is so talented and the greatest duo to work with. I am so sad these two videos are the last two things I will ever do with Uproar!

This is Uproar’s video for Trannie Stevens - a new artist to our 2011-2012 roster. This video was done by Stacy Wren, a graduating FDM major from Baylor. Trannie is such a lively spirit, so I am so glad we got to make her music video vision come to life.

#6 Introducing O, Loveland: Uproar Records 2011-2012

Looking at the big picture, all six of our videos over one semester got about 2,255 hits on YouTube. But that doesnt include the 6,000 impressions at Pigskin Revue which resulted in merchandise sales, and the continuous play in the Student Union Building.

We had a lesser amount of videos than previous years, but I would say that we infinitely stepped up the quality of the videos that we put out last year.

Can’t wait to work on two or three official music videos this semester! I wonder which artists it will be? They recorded EPs at the end of the semester!

#5 Homecoming Pigskin Revue Video 2011

This is a video that played at each of Baylor University’s Pigskin Revue performances. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Pigskin, it is a performance during Homecoming week (Baylor has the largest homecoming parade in the nation), and it is the Top 8 acts from the Spring preformance of Sing.

Sing has about 20 acts, and is the second largest off broadway production in America. Thats right.. the second largest off broadway production in America.

For Pigskin, we created this video and it was shown to 2,000 people each night -reaching 6,000 members of the Baylor family in total. This video is a compilation of our artist introduction videos we had done throughout the semester. Thank you Michael Goldstein for editing this video for us!

#1 Introducing Layne Lynch: Uproar Records 2011-2012

My posts have been long overdue, seeing I haven’t posted in over 7 months!

Last semester I worked with Uproar Records as the VP of the Video Production to produce Introduction Videos each week. These videos were for artists and released within “their week” which was a week specifically designed to market and promote that new roster artist.

These next couple of posts are the videos that I was responsible for. From the creation process, to the organizing, managing, and producing process, it was a great learning experience. Thank you so much to William Meier for shooting and editing all the film! I learned last semester that Final Cut Pro is not for the light hearted, but I loved learning the program!

Long Overdue

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” -Romans 8:28

The longer I have been in Nashville for our 2 week class trip, and the longer I have been surrounded by this industry, the greater I’m compelled to work within it. When you’re sitting in the classroom, you don’t really get to taste the environment that you could potentially be working in post graduation and you may not know exactly why you want to work in the entertainment industry besides the surface level appeal of it all. It’s not an easy industry. Especially with the layoffs and the different ways in doing things in secular music compared to the Christian music industry. But the more I am immersed in this lifestyle and culture, the more I am compelled to be a little light and piece of Love in the life of someone who may not get to experience the same kind of Love I experience daily. I want to be the light in other people’s lives; be the light in the background pushing someone else’s career forward, both professionals and artists alike. That is all.

I know how annoying long blog posts can be, and I’m sure this long overdue entry looks like a novel, and I apologize, but in a month a lot has happened I will do my best to summarize for all of my favorite friends and family who like to keep up.

Well the semester finally ended, and went by way too fast. I mean WAY. too. fast. I guess I’m a Senior now? I feel a quarter life crisis coming on if next year zooms by just as quickly, if not quicker, than my junior year. All I have to say about the end of the year is that it is over, and as much as I love soaking up the sun and bumming around in the summer, I was reluctant to see my Advertising Procedures for Entertainment class end. I guess that means I’m kinda in the right major; right? I legitimately loved working on that project and I wish all my classes were like that. Have you seen the trailer for Sony Provident and Sherwood Pictures’ (creators of Fireproof and Facing the Giantsmovie, Courageous? Our project was the create a promotional campaign for that movie to present to our teacher and Sony Provident, with only a budget and no guidelines. This was the first project we have worked on that had hardly any guidelines so that was really challenging, but in the end I loved doing it, and I definitely will love working in this industry. P.S. you should go see Courageous on September 30th.

Flash foward 2 weeks- Right now I am in Nashville for 2 weeks with my class meeting with 2 to 3 labels, firms, companies, or people every single day. Today is the end of day 5 and it has been a terribly successful week. We have met with EMICMG (Charlie Hall, Switchfoot), Sony Provident (RED, Third Day), Word Entertainment (Chris August, Meredith Andrews), Curb Records (Tim McGraw, Rodney Atkins), Creative Services, Creative Trust (Steven Curtis Chapman), Trivate Entertainment (Ben Rector), The MWS Group (Micheal W Smith), ASCAP, Tri Star Sports and Entertainment Management (Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Ron Artest), Dan Harrell (Amy Grant), and many others. I put just one or two of the people that those companies work with; you might recognize some. At the end of the trip I’ll give you a complete list. It has been so awesome and I have learned so much already. I also had the opportunity opened to me to work Michael W Smith events through out the summer, so I am really excited for that so I can start to explore my interest in event management. I know that was so brief, and my Nashville Spring Break trip entries were very detailed, but I will spare you some of that now and give you some next week, ok?

A portion of RCA Studio B. Elvis recorded over half of his catalog here and about 1,000 top hits came out of this room. Absolutely incredible to be able to see this place.
